If you own — or are thinking about owning — a luxury vacation home in Costa Rica, this blog is for you. I started Marquis Stays after spending more than 20 years as a vacation home owner myself, and after watching one too many real estate firms treat my property like an afterthought. This is where I'll share what we've learned along the way, in plain language, with no fluff.
Why we started this blog
Most of what's written about vacation rental management online is either generic SEO bait written by people who have never owned a property, or it's marketing copy from giant national managers who treat every home like a unit on a spreadsheet. Neither of those reflects the reality of owning a luxury home in Potrero, Tamarindo, La Fortuna, or anywhere else in Guanacaste.
We're starting this blog to fix that. The plan is simple: share what's actually working — and what isn't — for luxury Costa Rica owners right now.
Who this is for
If you already own a high-end vacation home in Costa Rica and you're trying to figure out whether your current manager is doing right by you, this blog is for you. If you're considering buying in Guanacaste and you want a clearer picture of what running a rental actually looks like — the seasonality, the realistic revenue, the operational headaches, the pricing strategy — this blog is for you.
If you're a fellow operator who wants to compare notes, you're welcome too. Everyone else can probably skip it.
What we'll cover
We're going to write about the things owners actually ask us about. Pricing strategy and how dynamic pricing tools really work on luxury homes. The math of direct booking versus OTA channels — and why it matters more every year. Market reports from Guanacaste and the wider Costa Rica coast. Regulatory changes that affect short-term rentals. The owner-operator perspective on hiring vendors, vetting cleaning teams, and protecting your asset.
We'll also share what we learn from running our own properties, because we still own them, and they're still the best classroom we have.
